Attoway Davis Cottage

305 Main St.
Eutaw, AL 35462

This restored home is on the National Register of Historic Places. The house, which has grown and evolved through the decades, is a history lover's delight. The core of the house, the two story portion, is the oldest structure in Eutaw(1817) and is restored to its original warmth with exposed beams and wide pine floors. A wealthy planter bought the property in 1840 and added an antebellum two room structure to screen the farmhouse from the road. These rooms probably served as formal parlors. In 1850 a doctor bought the property and added a one room cottage to the side for his office. These structures were linked together over time and restored to their original appearance with modern comfort and amenities. A large new room across the back of the house serves as a sunroom and breakfast area. In the heart of the Blackbelt, the cottage's location is perfect for U of A sports, antiquing, touring antebellum homes, fishing, hunting, boating on the Black Warrior River, hunting for fossils on Shark Tooth Creek or canoeing the Sypsey River.
