Upper Town is an underutilized, fun class I and II run with easy access. It is easy to catch in winter and spring since Town Creek seldom gets too low to run in the colder months. Upper Town is a good training ground for beginning whitewater paddlers. Put in just below a slide rapid at the site of an old mill at Hwy 227. The very next rapid is relatively narrow and tricky, but the rest of the run is considerably easier. At a good level, there is a nice class I or II shoal around almost every bend. Don't forget to take out on the right above the walking bridge at High Falls Park; High Falls is a 50' drop that could radically mess up your day!
