Skill Level:
Beginner to intermediate in most sections. Trail interspersed with technical sections.
Route Info:
(Source: Birmingham Urban Mountain Pedalers Web site trail guide.) The trail is marked by red blazes that signify bikes are allowed on trail. Trails are a combination of clean, curvy and fast single-track interspersed with dirt fire-road connections. There are a number of technical expert-level sections that can be walked by less skilled mountain bikers. By and large, the entire trail can be cleared by intermediate-level riders.

The trail is near a major urban area and therefore sees heavy use by other mountain bikers of widely varying skill and speed, as well as pedestrian traffic. The best time to enjoy the trail is during low-use times early morning or midday during the middle of the week. Weekends see the heaviest traffic on the trails.

Variations:
Shorter rides can be made by following the shorter sections and then following the short connectors back to the access roads. Trails are well marked. Maps are available at the Visitors Center on the right immediately before entering the main gate to the park. Maps are also available online at www.bump.org.
Features:
The entire trail is a 17-mile continuous loop made up of a series of sections connected by or using park roads. The longest uninterrupted section, the Red Trail, runs from the North Trailhead, approximately 8 miles to the intersection of Peavine Road. It features a long climb and challenging descent. The other sections comprising the entire 17-mile trail are named and run from under 1 mile to 5 miles in length.
Afterward:
