Mountain Biking - Gene’s Loop

Approximately 5 miles of single-track and dual-track (jeep road) trails located just east of Highway 9 off the unpaved portion of Joseph Springs Motorway. It is quite fast and curvy with one short, steep hill called Blowhard. It can be bypassed on a fire road cut-off. Overall, the trail is very good riding for beginner and intermediate riders. The trail can be ridden as marked or in reverse.

Beginner to Advanced Expert riders can enjoy this trail as speed riding skill test. Bad Boy and Morgan's Best both feature steep ascents, descents and narrow hillside trails that qualify this section as a tough intermediate or advanced trails.

Route Info:

(Source: Alabama Mountain Biking Web Site, www.lightinside.org/bike/.) The trail begins a few yards east of Highway 9 on the unpaved portion of Joseph Springs Motorway. The trail begins on the right (south) side of the road across from the Wildlife Management Area trailer and equipment shed. It is marked with a sign. The trail is blazed with orange arrows.

Variations:

Gene's Loop eventually crosses Highway 9 and emerges onto the paved portion of Joseph Springs Motorway (JSM) west of Highway 9. Follow the JSM right (east) back toward Highway 9. The trailhead for Mark's Loop is on the left about 200 feet before JSM reaches Highway 9. Mark's Loop adds another 6 miles to Gene's Loop.
