Borden Creek Trail

This is just a fun hike for everyone. That's all there is to it.

One of the most popular trails in the Sipsey Wilderness, the Borden Creek Trail follows the cold, clear waters of its namesake. As with many trails in the wilderness the Borden is unmarked but well used, so it's easy to follow.

This easy-to-moderate trail begins as it travels below the towering sandstone walls of the canyon. After a good rain, small waterfalls cascade down into the creek. Just after the start of the hike you'll come to a beautiful 50-foot cascade and next to it, a 100-foot-long cave. Here's your chance to do a little spelunking as the trail passes through the cave! It's big enough to stand up in at the start, but you may find yourself crawling if you're tall toward the exit as it makes a right bend toward the creek.

The Borden is also a favorite of botanists, both amateur and professional, who come here each spring to explore the wide varieties of species along the trail. And don't be surprised if you pass many photographers snapping shots.

The trail finally joins up with the Sipsey River. You will pass a stone marker that was placed here during the dedication of the wilderness in 1975 just before you cross under CR 6 and arrive at the Sipsey River Recreation Area.

You have two options when it comes to hiking the Borden Creek Trail. The first is doing it as a 4.8-mile out-and-back. If this is the case, this is your turnaround point to head back to the northern trailhead.

You can also do this as a 2.4-mile point-to-point. Before beginning the trip, make sure to leave a shuttle vehicle at the recreation area to take you back to the northern trailhead.
The Borden Creek Trail is a must-do trail for your entire family.
